Moving Company Reviews Columbus
If you are here to find out more about moving company reviews Columbus area residents, you are in the right place. We are a moving company but we have had the pleasure of working with some very knowledgeable online business advisers over the years that have taught us a lot about the online review industry. We have written some other articles that have briefly discussed online reviews. The following article will discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of the online review world. This article will help you choose the right moving company and better companies in all industries.
The Good
Reviews can be an extremely helpful tool when you are looking to choose a moving company. However we live in times where deception online is rampant. There are a lot of online sites that do their very best to determine what is a real review and what is a fictitious review. What do we mean by a fictitious review? Fictitious reviews are created all of the time for companies by:marketing agencies, competitors, and even the business itself. Consumers rarely think this sort of thing takes place but business owners have become all too familiar with these situations.
Yelp Reviews
Some review sites such as Yelp do their best to filter what they believe to be false reviews off of business profiles. Yelp’s review filter system has been coveted for many years by online directories as well as search engines. However, Yelp does not always get it right either. Real reviews from real customers frequently get moved to a section of a company profile on Yelp referred to the “not currently recommended” portion. This can be found at the bottom of a Yelp profile in gray. When you click on the gray text it will show you all of the reviews Yelp does not currently recommend. We will use our Yelp profile as an example. (If you click on the link it will appear in a new tab for you) Even our own Yelp profile has filtered reviews. We have several positive reviews from real customers. We even have one negative review from a real customer that is also filtered. These are all real reviews from our customers but yet they are still filtered by Yelp’s review system. Even though Yelp is acclaimed to be one of the best review sites, they are far from perfect. It is very important to view the filtered and unfiltered reviews on Yelp.
Angieslist Reviews
Angieslist really is one of the most reliable review sites online. It is free businesses to add their company information to Angieslist. The reason Angieslist is one of the most reputable online review sources is the fact that consumers have to pay to be able to read reviews from others. It can be difficult for new businesses to acquire reviews on Angieslist but once they do they can quickly gain popularity. Angieslist is one of the most trustworthy online review sites, but it still has it’s loopholes. Some businesses have been known to pay for friends or family member to have an Angieslist account just to acquire reviews. Overall Angieslist is one of the best places to look for moving company reviews Columbus homeowners, you just have to decide whether or not you are willing to pay for a membership.
The Bad
Google Reviews
Google has become much better over the years at detecting false reviews. However a large number of Google reviews are still not real reviews. One of my favorite examples of false reviews on Google was brought to light by a marketing agency in 2012. A reviewer on Google had wrote 40 detailed negative reviews for 40 different companies. All of the companies were in the same industry and city and written on the same day. The odds of a consumer using 40 different companies for one service type in a single day, are well, impossible. There was however, one good review written by that reviewer and it just so happened to be for the same industry and city. Clearly the company that had the one positive review had written 40 false reviews to make their competitors look like bad companies. The marketing agency took screenshots (online images) of the negative reviews written by the reviewer. The marketing company systematically went through and called each one of the 40 companies that had a negative review and showed them what had taken place. The marketing company asked that each company not call the one company that had a positive review until they followed back up with them later. The agent at the marketing agency finally called the one company with THE good review. He just so happened to get the right person on the phone. The marketing agency explained to the man on the phone that there were 40 negative reviews all written by the same individual and he had a positive review. The man acted as though he had no idea how those reviews appeared online. The agent at the marketing agency recommended that they remove the negative reviews immediately if they had the ability to do so. The man on the phone still claimed to not know how they appeared. The call ended shortly thereafter. A few minutes later the one positive review on the reviewers account was deleted but all of the negative reviews remained. The agent at the marketing company took the only ethical and logical next step they could. The marketing company started calling back each and every one of the businesses that had a negative review. He explained that the man on the phone claimed to know nothing about the negative reviews. However, shortly after the call ended the one positive review on the account (the identifier that he was the was the culprit) was deleted. The business owners all called the business that wrote the false review one by one. You can rest assure that the business that wrote all of those negative reviews did not have a good day. The negative reviews on all of those businesses disappeared over the next 24 hours. We are quite certain that business owner never wrote a negative review for his competitors again. Luckily for business owners and consumers there are people in the general public that try to keep false reviews from staying online.
The reason we decided to share that story is point out the importance of the reviewers identity. The reviewer is more important than the review. You should never look at moving company reviews Columbus residents and make your choice based upon a single review. You should first investigate the reviewer before reading the business reviews. If a reviewer only has one review and it is for the business you are considering, there is a higher probability that the review is fictitious. Some marketing agencies will create accounts just to write reviews. An easy way to identify false reviews from a marketing agency is to look at the reviewers review history. If reviewers have reviewed service companies all across the United States or world it is likely the reviewer is fake. If you look at other reviewers on the same business you will likely see the other reviewers have also reviewed those same companies all across the United States-world. You should place more faith in reviewers who have a long review history with a lot of reviews most of which are in one geographic area.
The Ugly
Some online resources do their very best to filter off reviews that are not real. Other sites are much more liberal with the reviews written on their sites. Facebook is a great place for people to connect with businesses. Unfortunately it’s review system is highly susceptible to spam. Recently we heard of a business who wanted his Facebook page to gain popularity. He decided to pay 100 people $5 each to write reviews on his Facebook page. Now this company appears to be extremely popular in the local area and all they really did was pay people to look popular. None of these solicited reviews were filtered.
There are other review sites in which businesses pay to have their reviews listed. These companies simply call a number that the business owner provides (a supposed customer) and the “customer” provides their “customer experience.” It is always easy to get a friend or family member to claim to have had great service. These sites claim to have more legitimate reviews because they are calling customers directly. However, there is really no way of knowing whether or not they were customers.
The best thing you can do is rely on the veteran reviewers in your local community. You should also become an avid reviewer. It is our job as consumers to help other consumers make better educated decisions. You should always take the opportunity to write about any experience you have with a company. Whether it was a positive or negative experience it is important to share your experience with others.
